November is American Diabetes Month, and while most of the world is promoting, educating and bringing awareness about human diabetes, I've chosen to spotlight feline diabetes and share a story about it in my first episode of Purr View.

The first episode of Purr View is called Diabetic Cat Care. I wanted to share what diabetes in felines is, how it's treated, and you'll meet a Bear, a local cat that lives a purrfectly pampered life as a diabetic cat.

My cat Mr. Earl lived with diabetes for about five years and he lived a good life. In the end of his life he didn't die from diabetes or complications of diabetes, he died of cancer. The years that I spent regulating him with insulin paid off and I was able to enjoy many years with him.

Diabetes is not a death sentence, it's not difficult to treat and some cats even go into remission. The first episode of Purr View is dedicated to my cat Mr. Earl, and to the many other cats that I've taken care of that have or had diabetes.

Diabetes affects about 800, 000 cats in the us. Veterinary treatment and changes in diet can help save the lives of cats living with the disease. The episode also interviews Dr. Cassandra Kelly from the Cat Clinic in Plymouth Massachusetts. She talks about how to handle home care and gives hope on treating cats and getting them into remission. In addition, I consulted Dr. Plotnick from Manhattan Cat Hospital. Check out they're facebook page, they have the coolest cat pictures on the net.

We took a sneak peek into the world of Andrew Lloyd Weber's CATS, being purr-formed locally on the South Shore area of Massachusetts, when we visited the Star Player of Bristol County a few days before opening night! We learned a few interesting things about how CATS get along, what it takes to get into the character of a cat and a few other purrfect facts! We interviewed Jeana Caporelli the Box Office Manager, and Aaron Roberts who plays 'Macavity'.

While filming at Strut For Strays, I met  Margaret Kudzman from The Rescue Business. They're located on the North Shore, and they help stray cats, feral cat colonies, and their caregivers by providing food, medical care, training and support to residents and cat caregivers. I had a great conversation with Margaret. She shared her experience of helping cats, what she learned about feral cats, and so much more. Margaret is a strong, overcomer who has a passion for cats and the tenacity to spearhead the obstacles that come her way. She is an inspiration.

I've been interested in learning more about Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society (MRFRS) for some time. They are diligent in their feral cat program TNR and spay/neuter on their Cat Mobile. They welcomed me for an interview last year- at the Strut For Strays. I spoke with Lisa Finkel, Vice President, about the programs they have and what the Strut event is all about. I  met a lot of nice people helping cats on the North Shore. There was a nice turn out even though it rained for part of the day, it didn't stop the runners and walkers who attend to support the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society. Kelly Kiley, Veterinary Technician for the Cat Mobile 2 was on hand to discuss the details behind the program they have that spays and neuters cats and she gave us a tour of the van. Their mobile service expands to many locations in and around and outside of the North Shore area. Their team of dedicated caregivers has an incredibly organized task of caring for up to 60 cats at a time in the van. This spring, I also made a trip up to their shelter in Salisbury Massachusetts to get some footage for this segment. I really enjoyed learning about the programs they have in place to help cats in the community and the story behind how they got to the place where they could offer those programs and why. At the shelter I'd like to give a special thanks to everyone who welcomed me and my mom on that rainy day. Especially Britny Fox , Shelter Manager for giving an interview about Feline Leukemia kitty's, and Stephanie Lyon, Marketing Coordinator. I loved visiting the cats at the shelter and look forward to visiting again someday. In addition, we did include our quick and informative interview with Rosemarie Hollandsworth. Although she wasn't available for a comment at post production I believe she can still be reached at the Facebook page by searching CAPA.ORG. For more information on Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society and they cool cats, literally, go to www.MRFRS.ORG. Their next Strut For Strays Event is being held this coming Sunday May 22, 2016!

Learn about the Kingston, MA Animal Shelter- They have an animal care fund, from public donations that helps the shelter provide medical care for the dogs and cats that they care for. I just love it there. They have a lot of nice volunteers and a very clean and friendly shelter.
